What is TOR?

TOR Stands for The Onion Router, it is a tool to provide strong anonymity while using the internet. There are many reasons to use tor, but most often it is used to circumvent government censorship, and spying from network operators. Since transgender issues are a personal safety risk in many countries we provide a way to use TOR on TransAdvice?.org.

Can I use TOR to connect to Trans Advice?

Using TOR to access services on TransAdvice?.org is allowed. However there are a few restrictions that apply to users connecting from TOR:

  1. You must register with NickServ on the normal internet (clearnet) before using TOR on TransAdvice?
  2. You must use SASL to authenticate your connection

How can I use TOR to connect?

There is a bit of configuration that is required, first edit your `torrc` as follows:

   MapAddress 10.222.222.222 transcatsezoymf5hcrfp7phadzk7vrgesluybh37sqhmzz6lm6fwryd.onion

You may also want to add a LongLivedPorts` line to allow IRC traffic to run for longer peroids of time over TOR:

   LongLivedPorts 6697

Once you have set this up you can start your IRC client with `torsocks` and have it connect to IRC via `10.222.222.222`

You will have to authenticate by adding your username and password you setup in the above steps.
