There are lots of resources out there now-a-days for transgender and transsexual people. However, one should know that not all sites are created equally. There is a ton of bullshit out there just laying in wait for the unsuspecting person to come along and find. The first rule of the net is: Think for yourself! Don't even take what's said here as anything special or factual, without checking it out yourself.

A lot of sites will tell what it means to be a transsexual. This is almost always from their own point of view and experience, and does not reflect all of transsexuals' experiences. The total experience of transsexuals is vast and varied -- we each inhabit our own space, and we might think and see things differently from someone else. Unfortunately, a lot of sites tend to invalidate experience which does not match their own. Beware of this!! Just because you don't recognize yourself in their words, doesn't mean your experience is invalid!

That said, there is still a lot of useful information on these sites. It's just that you have to pick-and-choose what is valuable for you. Take what works and leave the rest. Be aware of bias. Be aware of agenda. Trust no-one with out checking. This is the net and anyone can publish anything.

In doing your research, try to find as many sources as you can, and read a lot. That way, you can educate yourself across a broad spectrum of opinion and data (I hesitate to call anything an actual fact) that you can sift through to find out what is true for you -- that's what is most important after all, what are you going to do with all this?
